You will find in these pages the Proceedings of the 1st Workshop on Middleware and Architectures for Autonomic and Sustainable Computing (MAASC'11), which was held in Paris, France, in collocation with the 11th International Conference on New Technologies of Distributed Systems (NOTERE'11). MAASC was a particularly lively event, with two exciting keynote presentations, and four papers presented.

We would like to thank warmly the authors, whose work is presented in the following pages, and our two keynote speakers, René Doursat from the Institut des Systèmes Complexes, Paris Ile-de-France CREA, Ecole Polytechnique & CNRS, and Damien Martin-Guillerez from INRIA Bordeaux Sud-Ouest SED, for their efforts and the keen enthusiasm they brought to the event. We would also like to thank the Programme Committee Members for their prompt and dedicated work, which allowed for a very smooth reviewing process. Finally, we would like to thank the organisers of NOTERE'11, the 11th International Conference on New Technologies of Distributed Systems, in particular Thomas Robert, Isabelle Demeure, and Ahmed Serhrouchni, for suggesting the idea of this workshop, and for their continuous support in the preparation of this event.
